Jem began taking up violin lessons at the age of 6. Her first mentor was Mrs. Lala Imperial of St. Paul College, Pasig (SPCP), training her in a span of 5 years. Later enrolled in AWIT center for the Arts at the age of 12, she took up lessons under the mentorship of Mr. Joshua Legaspi for a year.
She became part of AWIT children’s string ensemble (ACSE) under the baton of Ms. Angela Calimon and AWIT Pilipinas Youth Orchestra (APYO) conducted by Mr. Ferdinand Medina.
She performed in annual student school recitals and other school (SPCP) events such as the school’s string ensemble performances in Hotel Nikko in Makati and Shangri-La Hotel Mandaluyong. Also, being part of AWIT children’s string ensemble and AWIT Pilipinas Youth Orchestra, she was able to perform in different venues such as Abelardo Hall in UP Diliman, Philamlife Auditorium, Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (CCP Little Theater), The Poduim, SM Megamall, Lourdes School of Mandaluyong and several other venues.
In 2007, she received a scholarship from the Philippine High School for the Arts. This gave her more opportunities to participate in various performances in places such as, Tanghalang Maria Makiling (NAC Theater), Abelardo Hall, Philamlife Auditorium, SMX Convention Center, UPLB Carabao Park, Market! Market!, CCP Studio Theater, and Rizal Park Open-Air Auditorium (Concert At the Park).
In the year 2008, she attended Master Classes conducted by Prof. Victor Asuncion and Mr. Victor Coo, Alumni of Philippine High School for the Arts.
At present, she is under the tutelage of Prof. Sergio Z. Esmilla Jr. of the University of Santo Tomas, Conservatory of Music.

This picture was taken when Jem attended my cousin's wedding as a flower girl (1999). The first time that we step on the majestic Mt. Makiling.
Twelve years later, Mt. Makiling became her home for the last four years of her high school life.

ReplyDeleteMy 5 y.o old is also musically inclined, though she haven't attended formal lessons yet, she already joined few singing competition in school.
