New Kapuso Shows and Technology

Last April 29 became a big day for me and some of my co-bloggers for we have been invited not only to tour the studio and radio station of GMA7 but also to be one of the privileged few to see the new shows line up for the month of May of GMA Kapuso network

GMA-7 unveils new programs and specials airing this May 2011 from Janette Toral on Vimeo.

Kapuso  Network’s way of thanking it’s loyal viewers for making it the number one broadcast station, not just in Mega Manila, but also, more significantly, in the entire country, led them to unveil several top-notch programs and offer exclusive airings of this year’s most highly anticipated boxing match- all in the month of May. Never have I seen a network giving its viewers all of what they were longing for in just one month.

To begin with, this May 8, GMA-7 will air the exclusive coverage and other behind the scene footages of the most awaited face-off between PINOY Boxing Champ Manny Pacquiao and his opponent Shane Mosley. From the events leading to and following the actual fight, Filipinos from all over the globe will be one with the Pound-for-Pound Champ in what could be his most challenging match to date. I know for a fact that this day will again bring all the Filipinos together as one.

Immediately succeeding is Munting Heredera which will launch its pilot episode on May 9. Gloria Romero will once again grace the screen, as the veteran actress will take part in the pioneering drama of the year, an original creation that will bring enlightenment and inspiration to the entire household as it tackles universal issues on love, family and life. Three of the network’s freshest young discoveries will be joining professional actors and actresses in bringing out the best in this show.

A movie originally starred by Snooky Serna during the 80’s will be revived in GMA Dramarama sa Hapon as Kapuso Network brings to the television Blusang Itim  on May 16. Topbilled by rising stars Kylie Padilla, Frank Magalona and Winwyn Marguez, the series will follow the story of a woman struggling to live in the dazzling yet cruel world of fashion as she is hampered by her physical appearance.

Another movie classic will be remade as Cesar Montano and Iza Calzado takes on the roles of Vic Vargas and Gloria Diaz in Andres de Saya, which tells of how a macho man turns into an “under de saya,” at the beck and call of his darling Matilde. Starting on May 28, every Saturday night will be livened up as this story full of love and laughter entertains the whole family.

On May 30, Jackie Rice, together with Dominic Roco and JC Tiuseco will take the audience underwater as the pilot episode of Sisid is launched. From the beaches of Batangas, the characters will portray greed and innocent love as their lives revolve around a precious pearl believed to give riches and true love to its owner.

To premiere on May 14 is My Chubby World, a kiddie show hosted by Renz Valerio, Zyrael Jestre, Daniela Jessica Amable and Gianne Cutler. Every Saturday feature a thematic presentation in sets, top 7 of things that kids hold interest in. Being a mom of five, I know that will stir the minds of children, as they tend to display likes, dislikes, and favorites. Speaking of child-oriented shows, GMA News and Public Affairs is giving us Sabadabadog – an educational show for children hosted by Tonipet Gaba together with four friendly mascots set to premiere by the latter part of May.

For the environmentally-concerned viewers, SNBO will feature this Sunday on May 1 GROUND ZERO: Sa Gitna ng Nagbabagang Mundo, an environmental documentary again presented by GMA News and Publics Affairs. With the desire to give the public a better understanding of one of nature’s most violent phenomenon, earthquakes, Vicky Morales and a team of GMA’s senior reporters traveled from Luzon to Mindanao to gather information in the cities and provinces exposed to natural hazards.
Also this Sunday is the airing of the beatification ceremonies Blessed: John Paul II from 4:00 to 6: 30 pm and the rerun of the highlights from 10 to 11 pm. Preceding the highlights at 8:45 is a documentary on the late pontiff’s life entitled John Paul the Great: A Pope Who Made History.

On May 30, television history will be made as the first epic serye is aired on television. Starring primetime queen Marian Rivera, together with Glaiza de Castro, Sid Lucero, and Mikael Daez, only to name a few, Amaya will offer a home viewing experience like no other as the audience witness a well-researched storyline with amazing visual effects and first class production design at work.

GMA-7’s Koreanovelas have already become a part of the television history of the Philippines. With that in mind, this May, Playful Kiss, a Korean series based on Itazura na kiss, a popular Japanese manga, will premiere on Philippine TV. Starred by Jung So-Min and Kim Hyun-Joong, the two characters play the beautiful but clumsy girl and a perfect but cold-hearted guy. The story tells of how one thing leads to another and of how a single encounter can change the lives of two completely opposite individuals, all of which started from a playful kiss.
Replacing my favorite top-rating Koreanovela “Baker King” starting this Monday on May 2 is Secret Garden, featuring the tandem of Hwang Jini lead star, Ha Ji-won and My Name is Kim Sam Soon leading man, Hyun Bin. The series follows the love story of the two characters whose lives were bounded by a magical phenomenon that switched their bodies, eventually leading to greater understanding and admiration for the other person.
I have always been an avid follower of the Koreanovelas that GMA features. The tasteful selection of titles with unique concepts and creative plotlines never failed to capture my interest, and so I am very much looking forward to this month’s new releases, and I am quite sure that viewers of all ages are just as excited as I am.
GMA-7 upped my elation as they gave me the chance of a studio tour. I could barely contain my excitement as I approached the entrance hall leading to the studios. I have always wondered how this network manages to stay on top of the ratings, being able to produce quality shows, and as we went around every studio, little by little, my curiosity was satisfied. Studios 2, 3, and 5 which were dedicated to news and public affairs have state-of-the art lighting systems from being HD-ready to variable intensity, all of which were computer-controlled.

Mommy Lariza

Studio 5, being the 3rd biggest studio of the network, houses the News and Public Affairs shows, while studios 6 (2nd biggest studio covering 638 sq.m.) and 7 (the biggest studio with 1020 sq.m.) are set aside for entertainment-related shows.

I was able to have a glimpse of the green room where shoots were done when they needed to create computer-generated backgrounds for certain shows.

I also had the chance to visit the oldest building of the network, established during the 1950, DZBB ( BB stands for Bisig Bayan) Radio Station.

DZBB Super Radyo’s Host Sir Orly was gracious enough to let me in to his domain
