A Mother's Shirt

By the time of the Great Depression, the T-shirt was often the default garment to be worn when doing farm or ranch chores,”

I’d like to share a simple story. Honestly, I don’t like this shirt, but things happen naturally as I go through with my life. Oftentimes I find myself randomly picking this shirt when I’m in a rush. Out of the comfort it brings I came to notice its significance. With a touch of white blended with pink makes it even simpler knowing that much of history can be found in this apparel we call T-shirt. So many ways it served us yet failing to see the importance of it. As I flip through the photo albums, the photos retell the occasions but seeing the shirt reminded me of the feeling at that very moment. A momentous occasion, that as a mother, I search for essentials over preferences. Although the great depression is part of history now, but the association of it still prevails that my shirt is part of my household chores.

As it twirls around the washing machine, I could not help but find more reasons why this shirt would matter. Gently pouring the powder goes with it optimism to wear it again. Not leaning more of the comfort but looking forward for new memories when I get to wear it. As I stare at it completely dried with the sun‘s rays, I finally knew that the deeper truth is ….

I don’t like this shirt, I LOVE IT.
I love it in many ways as my daughters would wear it when I don’t,
I love it when celebrity Invites arise without dress codes for I get to wear it.

I love it because I feel the comfort of home even when I am away with my friends.

Out of Town Bonding
I love it knowing I was interviewed in GMA when the prints sez “ETC”.
I love it because it never stays long enough in my closet.
I love it because as a mother, this shirt is part of my life.
I love this shirt! Now I want someone else to love it too! I support the Electrolux Wash-athon Clothes Donation Advocacy.”

What's shirt is part of you?

  9. Now that I learned to wash my own clothes I understand what you really feel Ms. Lariza. Which remind me of my favorite white shirt that was stained just this week due to 1 day soaking it so happened that the logo was the cause of that stain and whenever I am thinking of what I should wear it was a regretful and uneasy feeling on which if ever I will be having that said shirt of yours may somehow replaced my longing for that favorite and costless shirt.....

  33. Cool! Reminds me of my old shirt, old and tattered but holds a lot of memories. I still refuse to throw it away. Once in a while, on a lazy, rainy bed weather, I still wear it. :)

  34. For a while, I thought the t-shirt you were telling has a not-so-pleasant experience because of the intro that you don't like itthe import.

But reading your missives and looking at different photos you have included here, made me realize how you not "not" like it but rather told your readers how important that t-shirt is to you.

The way you told your t-shirt story echoed your life's experiences and how you bonded with your family and friends.

Great story I may say. It is wonderful to hear stories like what you have shared.

I guess now, you'll find it hard to separate with the t-shirt that you love. And now I know, you'll be a candidate for the win!

Keep it up! Good job Mommy!
