Dengue Tops Moms Most Feared Diseases

My children having a fever before was just an ordinary situation,   but now a days; it’s a different story. When my children would have a fever, the first thing I would do was to have them test for dengue.Together with the common flu, typhoid, hepatitis, among others, dengue is up there in the list as one of the most dreaded diseases that moms worry their kids may contract. Unlike the other illnesses mentioned, dengue doesn’t have a vaccine that can provide immediate protection. Prevalent in tropical countries such as the Philippines, dengue affects people differently. While others may stop at having flu-like symptoms such as high fever and muscle-and-joint pains and rash, others suffer life-threatening complications. A few succumb to Dengue Shock Syndrome, in which the patient’s white blood cells drop to a dangerous level, leading to internal bleeding. In some of these cases, dengue becomes fatal. While it is true that all people, regardless of age, can be infected with d...

DOH:   cases of dengue-like mosquito-borne disease now rising As a parent we make sure that our children are safe from harm. We always gather inform that we think will help us in making sure that we do that part right. But do we really know everything.  Little did we know that aside from dengue, there are many other life-threatening mosquito-borne diseases that have hounded Filipinos for decades.   Though there is no vaccine available in the country to cure these illnesses, preventive measures are available to assure safety of adults and children alike. Last October, the Department of Health (DOH) warned the public to take extra precautions against the chikungunya virus.   The DOH confirmed that there were 150 recorded cases of this dengue-like disease last month.   And last year, more than 1,000 cases of chikungunya were recorded in the country.

With the rainy season coming in, another problem comes with it.   Parents like me are all concern with the Dengue fever that comes with this season. Thankfully there are companies that are always on the lookout for new innovations as to how to prevent the spread of this deadly epidemic Here's an information that I want to share to all my reader. The Philippine Association of Entomologists (PAE) reports an increased threat of dengue against communities. Through a clinical study conducted by Filipino entomologists, it has been confirmed that a dengue-lamok species (dengue-carrying mosquitoes) bite not only during the day but at night as well. This breakthrough discovery debunks a common belief that dengue-lamok only bite at daytime, and that there is little or no threat of dengue at night. “Many people believe that dengue lamok only bite during the day. This makes them feel more complacent at night, as they think there’s no more risk of dengue infection. However, this...
